Job Description

The Role

We’re seeking a talented Head of SEO with a strong Content background to lead our UK & South Africa SEO departments. With the support of a Cape Town Head of SEO, and two Tech SEO Directors in London, we’re looking for someone to bring energy and ambition to the team, helping us constantly improve our SEO offering.

Roles & Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Leadership of the SEO and Content teams across the UK & South Africa offices
  • Ensuring exceptional quality of work and client performance
  • Responsible for departmental objective setting, roadmaps, leadership, coaching, training and mentoring the team, ensuring clear objectives and development plans
  • Responsible for team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Resource planning and client allocations for the teams
  • Departmental financial and profitability planning
  • Departmental HR processes including recruitment and team development
  • Strategic planning and oversight of client accounts
  • Provide teams with technical or strategic support when required

New Business & Farming

  • Lead pitches for SEO new business opportunities, creating presentations, projections and commercials to win new client accounts
  • Assist with cross selling of SEO services across other departments & channels

Marketing

  • Ensuring ROAST’s SEO is prominent in the industry, known for excellent work and being forward thinking
  • Representing the company at marketing and industry events
  • Identifying events and opportunities to increase awareness of ROAST’s SEO offering
  • Creating whitepapers, blogs and research pieces for publication
  • Speaking at industry events

Client support

  • Act as a senior technical contact for all clients investing in SEO and Content
  • Represent the department at key strategic meetings, pitches and reviews
  • Take a strategic and, where required, hands-on lead on key client accounts and evaluate the effectiveness of work against objectives, learning lessons, and comparing with industry best practices to support the improvement of future work
  • Oversee and deliver clear organic search strategy for client accounts
  • Lead the smooth onboarding for new SEO clients
  • Contribute to client monthlies and/or QBRs
  • Work with Account Directors to manage client hours, outputs & satisfaction

Product development

  • Leading the development and growth of our SEO and Content offerings
  • Pushing technical SEO expertise and excellence across the company
  • Bringing new ideas to the department and encouraging team collaboration
  • Act as the agency’s SEO voice and champion for the business internally and externally
  • Overall responsibility for the quality of output and performance of all SEO and Content work delivered by the agency
  • Responsible for department objectives, overall management of the team, planning, and evaluating department activity
  • Own relationships with departmental suppliers, including regular reviews, commercial negotiations and contracts

The Candidate

We are looking for someone with 8+ years of technical SEO and Content experience, and ideally with at least 3 years’ experience of managing a large team. As part of the senior ROAST team, you will need to demonstrate commercial acumen and strong leadership qualities.

We have a large, established technical SEO team. As well as continuing to grow this, we are looking for a candidate who can specifically accelerate our Content capabilities. Experience and expertise across both elements are essential to this role. You’ll have worked on a range of websites across multiple industries with demonstrable performance improvements.

We are looking for a positively minded team player that will boost the collective knowledge of the department and has a hunger to always be at the forefront of the SEO industry.

Preferred Technical SEO Skills & Tools Experience

  • Full technical audits with prioritised actions
  • Keyword research & mapping
  • Crawl optimisation
  • SERP features optimisation
  • Experience migrating a website
  • Page speed optimisation
  • Rank tracking
  • Building SEO reports
  • Schema mark-up (incl JSON-LD)
  • Good working knowledge of crawling tools, including Screaming Frog or any cloud-based programs
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JS
  • Experience working on off-site SEO campaigns
  • Backlink auditing
  • Link reclamation

Experience using:

  • Screaming Frog
  • GSC
  • GA or Omniture
  • Excel, PPT, Word, Google Sheets etc.
  • Data Studio (or similar)
  • Google Tag Manager

Preferred Content Skills & Experience

  • Full understanding of the Content ideation process, production cycle, outreach/PR, assessment and asset lifecycle
  • Experience of working with relevant teams including insights, design, development, copywriting and PR
  • Experience working with clients and SEO teams to generate cohesive briefs and strategies for Content projects
  • Experience of managing multiple workstreams to deliver performance-driving Content campaigns on time and on budget
  • Experience with all relevant tools to assist with planning, execution and analysis of Content campaigns, including
    • Project management tools (trello/monday/etc.)
    • Media list creation & outreach tools
    • KPI setting & tracking;
    • Coverage tracking / Number of links
    • Overall site visibility
    • Specific rankings
    • Traffic to the site or landing page
    • Leads generation

Location: hybrid working both from home and our buzzing office in Soho
